DHSEM and NMDOT join forces to deliver additional sandbags  to support San Miguel County

Santa Fe, NM – The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) on Wednesday delivered 130 pallets of sandbags to the San Miguel County Maintenance building in Las Vegas, NM, to support San Miguel County as they continue to experience flooding from the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar. To date, the department has delivered more than 18,000 sandbags to Mora and San Miguel counties. This effort is in partnership with the New Mexico Corrections Department and the Penitentiary of New Mexico which assisted filling the sandbags.

These efforts have been successful in limiting flood damage, and DHSEM will continue to support these communities as needed.

“I’d like to thank our partners at the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Penitentiary of New Mexico for their support as we continue to help our fellow New Mexicans experience flooding,” said Secretary David Dye.

“The NMDOT is committed to the well-being of the state,” said Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna. “Not only do our employees work for the people of New Mexico, but we live in and around the communities we serve. The NMDOT is proud to partnership with fellow state agencies to continue helping areas in need.”
