Extension of maximum SNAP benefits will continue in June 2022
New Mexicans able to purchase ready-to-eat foods from deli department through
July 12, 2022 due to wildfires
SANTA FE – New Mexico households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits will continue to receive the maximum amount for their household size for the month of June.
Additionally, SNAP recipients are able to purchase hot food prepared for immediate consumption with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card from deli departments at EBT authorized retailers through July 12, 2022 due to wildfires, announced the New Mexico Human Services Department.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved HSD’s request to ensure New Mexico families who are not able to prepare hot food due to home damages or displacement caused by the federally declared disaster wildfires have access to meals.This does not include restaurants or other non-EBT authorized retailers.
Since March 2020, $1,026,560,353 in Emergency allotments to issue maximum SNAP Benefits has been distributed to 359,463 New Mexico households.
Supported by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, the State Human Services Department has ensured SNAP clients qualify for maximum benefits throughout the Public Health Emergency. Customers should ensure their contact information is up-to-date.
“We’re here to support families when they need us most,” said Angela Medrano, Deputy Secretary for HSD. “Providing access to fresh, nutritious foods and having hot food available when you’re displaced and unable to cook is essential for families.”
The easiest way to make sure your contact information is up-to-date is on the YesNM website: www.yes.state.nm.us. Users can simply and easily update their address using the chat functionality there. The Human Services Department would like to remind New Mexicans who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits that they can double up food bucks and purchase more fruits and vegetables when they spend SNAP EBT card dollars at participating farmers markets, farm stands, mobile markets and grocery stores. For example, if you spend $10 from your SNAP EBT Card at a participating outlet, they will give you another $10 to buy fresh fruits and veggies grown in New Mexico.
